56 CSOs Demand Akpabio’s Resignation After Appeal Court Upholds Conviction Linked to 2019 Election<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A coalition of 56 prominent Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), including CISLAC, SERAP, CITAD, BudgIT, and Amnesty International Nigeria, has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio to resign from office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demand follows the recent ruling by the Court of Appeal in Calabar, which upheld the three-year prison sentence of Professor Peter Ogban, the returning officer for the 2019 Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial election. Ogban was found guilty of manipulating election results in favor of Akpabio, who was then the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CSOs argue that the judgment casts a shadow over Akpabio’s credibility and undermines public confidence in the integrity of the Senate leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
